How does the curtain work with the side guides?

The M1500 consists of a smoke rated curtain coated with a para-aramid material contained in a housing above the ceiling. The curtain is secured vertically on both sides by curtain loops secured by guide rods. Guide rods thread through guide rails anchored to the side walls. The curtain assembly is equipped with a bottom bar to seal the curtain at the bottom and provide edge sensing to detect obstructions to the deploying screen.

Can the side guides be imbedded in the wall?

Not currently. The Model 1500 side guides house important curtain containment components and require access along the full length of the guides. We recognize that it may be desirable to imbed the side guides into the wall. Because of this future Model 1500 designs will allow you to incorporate the side guides into the wall.

How do you egress through the Model 1500 curtain?

Two wall switches mounted on opposing walls beside the unit enable egress. The curtain will redeploy after egress if the system is still in alarm. When the alarm clears the curtain automatically retracts to the ready position.

Can the M1500 be used at locations other than the elevator where smoke containment is required?

Yes. In addition to the elevator lobby, the Model 1500 is well-suited to atriums, countertop enclosures, and gas suppression system support.

Does the Model 1500 have alternate sources of power?

Yes. Each Model 1500 unit uses an integrated UPS and battery back up.

How does the unit deploy in the event of a fire?

The system is deployed upon a signal from the local smoke detection system located in the elevator lobby, corridor or atrium being protected. As many as four Model 1500 units can be connected in parallel to one smoke detector and end of the line terminator. System deployment and retraction are powered by 120-volt AC power. The unit is also equipped with a 24-volt DC battery back-up system that is recharged from the electronic controls. When required the system can also be connected to building standby power. The controls include a universal power supply that can be adapted to foreign electrical current requirements.

What does "return" mean when I am specifying the Smoke Guard system?

We refer to the depth or distance between the wall and the face of the elevator door frame as a "return". Model 1500 has specific returns associated this system, consult your local SGS distributor or SG Customer Service on return sizes for your project.

Does the curtain stop if someone or something gets in the way while it deploys?

The Smoke Guard system (SGS) Model 1500 is designed to pause when an obstruction is encountered.

Does the Smoke Guard system Model 1500 provide monitoring capability to provide consistent operational status of the unit?

Yes.

What kind of warranty is provided by Smoke Guard, Inc.? When does the official warranty period begin?

Smoke Guard, Inc. provides a one-year warranty for the Smoke Guard system (SGS). The warranty period runs twelve months from the date that the project in which they are installed is turned over to the owner.

What is the recommended maintenance schedule for the Smoke Guard system?

Each Smoke Guard system (SGS) unit should be exercised once every six months to verify deployment of the screen.
